Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis – Brazilian Micro Sword

Create a beautiful, natural-looking green carpet in your aquarium with Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis! Also known as Brazilian Micro Sword, this attractive freshwater foreground plant features slender, grass-like green leaves that spread through runners to create a miniature lawn effect.

Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis is a popular choice for aquascapers designing Iwagumi layouts, nature-style aquariums and nano tanks. Its fine, grassy foliage looks especially beautiful around rocks and driftwood, adding natural texture to your aquarium foreground.

Planting & Care Tips

Divide Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis into small portions and plant them a few centimetres apart in suitable aquarium substrate. This gives each portion room to spread through runners and gradually form a continuous green carpet.

Provide adequate lighting, balanced nutrients and stable water conditions. CO₂ supplementation is optional, but it can encourage faster spreading and denser carpeting. Without additional CO₂, expect slower coverage.

Keep the foreground free from excessive shade, as taller plants can prevent the micro sword from forming a compact lawn. Regularly remove damaged leaves and trim excessive growth when needed. The plant may take time to establish, so patience is important when developing a full carpet.
