Hemianthus Callitrichoides Cuba – Dwarf Baby Tears

Create a lush, bright-green carpet in your planted aquarium with Hemianthus Callitrichoides Cuba! Commonly known as HC Cuba or Dwarf Baby Tears, this popular carpeting plant features tiny, round leaves that spread across the substrate to create a beautiful, lawn-like foreground.

One of the smallest-leaved aquarium plants, HC Cuba is a favourite among aquascapers designing Iwagumi layouts, nature-style aquariums and detailed nano tanks. Its dense, vibrant-green carpet creates a stunning contrast against aquarium rocks, driftwood and colourful aquatic plants.

Planting & Care Tips

Separate Hemianthus Callitrichoides Cuba into small portions and plant them a few centimetres apart in nutrient-rich aquarium substrate. This gives the individual portions room to spread and form a continuous carpet.

Provide strong lighting, stable CO₂ supplementation, adequate nutrients and good water circulation near the substrate. These conditions help encourage compact growth and prevent the carpet from becoming sparse or lifting away from the substrate.

Trim the carpet regularly once it becomes established. Excessively thick growth can block light from reaching the lower layers, causing them to deteriorate. For best results, introduce HC Cuba into a mature aquarium with stable water conditions.

Important: HC Cuba is more demanding than easier carpeting plants such as Monte Carlo. Strong lighting and supplemental CO₂ are particularly important if you want a dense, low-growing carpet.
