Description: Rotala macrandra ‘Mini Type 4’, also spelled ‘Mini Type IV’, is a small-leaved, delicate red variant of Rotala macrandra. Its longish-ovoid to roundish leaves give it the appearance of a miniature version of the classic broad-leaved form.
It grows best under strong lighting, in relatively soft water, with CO₂ levels above 20 mg/L and temperatures between 24–28°C. A regular, well-balanced supply of macro- and micronutrients through the water column is important.
For best growth, plant the stems in groups with a little space between each stem. Propagation is done by cuttings of the stem tips and side shoots.
A group of Rotala macrandra ‘Mini Type 4’ makes an eye-catching addition to the midground or background of an aquarium. Its delicate growth and red coloration provide an attractive contrast against light-green plants, and it is also suitable for relatively small aquariums.
