Ludwigia inclinata ‘Meta’ is a relatively new and still rare variety from the Meta region of central Colombia. It is prized for its spectacular coloration and relatively moderate cultivation requirements compared with other forms of Ludwigia inclinata.
Underwater, ‘Meta’ produces whorled, narrow leaves that develop vibrant red to orange tones under strong lighting. Its appearance is reminiscent of Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata ‘Pantanal’, while its cultivation requirements are closer to the easier-to-grow ‘Cuba’ variety.
For optimal growth and coloration, provide strong lighting, CO₂ supplementation, soft to medium-hard water, and a complete supply of macro- and micronutrients. Like most stem plants, it is easily propagated by cutting and replanting healthy stems.
In emersed growth, the plant develops broader, alternate leaves and can produce attractive yellow flowers.
With its vivid red-orange coloration and fine-leaved growth, Ludwigia inclinata ‘Meta’ makes a striking bush in the mid-ground or background of an aquarium. Its bright colors create an especially attractive contrast when planted alongside light-green aquarium plants.
A rare Colombian Ludwigia combining exceptional red coloration with comparatively manageable cultivation requirements.
