Hydrocotyle sp. “Japan” is a popular name used for this plant in aquarium plant forums. It is a variant of Hydrocotyle tripartita native to Southeast Asia.
The plant is characterised by fast, compact growth and small, vibrant green leaves that grow on upright stems. It forms a dense carpet, typically reaching 5–10 cm in height.
Compact growth can be encouraged through regular trimming and gentle physical pressing of the carpet during aquarium maintenance. Good lighting helps promote healthy carpet formation and dense growth.
