How to Plant Bucephalandra
Bucephalandra is an epiphytic rhizome plant and should not be planted like a conventional rooted aquarium plant.
Attach the Bucephalandra rhizome to driftwood, rocks or other aquarium-safe hardscape using aquarium-safe glue, thread or by placing it securely between rocks.
The rhizome should always remain exposed and should not be completely buried under aquarium substrate, as this can lead to rhizome rot.
Once established, the roots will naturally attach themselves to the hardscape.
Lighting and Care
Bucephalandra can grow under low to moderate aquarium lighting and does not require CO2 injection to survive. Good lighting, stable water conditions and regular nutrient availability can encourage healthier growth and better coloration.
Because Bucephalandra is a slow-growing plant, avoid excessive lighting that may encourage algae growth on its leaves.
Bucephalandra for Shrimp Tanks
Bucephalandra is an excellent choice for shrimp aquariums. Its leaves and hardscape growth provide additional surfaces where shrimp can graze on biofilm.
The compact growth of Bucephalandra also works particularly well in nano shrimp tanks and planted aquascapes.
Plant Adaptation
Some Bucephalandra plants may experience leaf melt after being introduced to a new aquarium, especially when transitioning from emersed to submerged growth. This does not necessarily mean the plant is dying.
If the rhizome remains healthy and firm, allow the plant time to adapt. New leaves can develop as the plant establishes itself in its new environment.
Important Note
The Bucephalandra Combo contains 4 individual rhizomes. The varieties included depend on the selected combo and availability.
As these are live aquatic plants, size, leaf count and appearance may vary slightly from the product images. Plants may also require some time to adapt and establish after being introduced to a new aquarium.
Add the Bucephalandra Combo to your aquarium for an easy way to create a detailed, natural and attractive aquascape.
